• Water daily, early in the day is best. Initially, may need more than one light waterings when conditions are windy and dry. Do not over-water: soil should be moist, but not soggy.

  • Restrict foot traffic for at least a month after seed has germinated.

  • Do not mow until grass is approximately 4 inches tall. Then mow weekly, when dry. Try not to mow more than 1/3 of the grass at a time.

  • Starter fertilizer will help encourage growth during the first two months. It can be applied when seeded or 2-4 weeks after seeding. Continue with regular fertilizer applications every 6-8 weeks for best results.

  • Hand pull weeds if necessary. Do not apply broadleaf weed control fertilizer until grass has been mowed at least four times.

  • You may have to add more grass seed in the spring or fall. Not all seeds will germinate in the first attempt.

  • Schedule your system to water 15-20 minutes per zone per day.

  • Best times to run are early morning, though late afternoon and early evening are another option during summer months.

  • Clean out sprinkler heads as needed to remove dirt or grass.

  • Watch for changes in water pressure. This might indicate a blockage or crack in pipes.

  • Winterize the irrigation system before temperatures drop below freezing.

  • Schedule routine maintenance each spring to keep your irrigation in good condition. Flush the system at the beginning of each season to clear any debris (run each zone until clear).

  • Allow lawns to thaw and dry out before using heavy equipment on your property.

  • Remove all debris from your property including sticks, acorns, large amounts of leaves and pine needles. It is best to use light raking or removal of debris by hand. These items can cause significant damage to lawn equipment.

  • Repair any winter damage from plows and snow blowers.

  • Rake and overseed bare spots, as needed. Starter fertilizer is recommended for first two months.

  • Spring is the best time to de-thatch or aerate your lawn.

  • Consider spring fertilizer application to get you off to a good start for the year.

  • Be cautious when pruning trees and shrubs. Spring-blooming varieties often develop buds in the fall and should be pruned after the blooming period
